The First Trickle Down Taxes Of Obamacare

It was wise politics for the President to tout all the positive and no-co-pay services brought about by Obamacare BEFORE the Election and unveil all the costs AFTER the Election.  Any politician who wanted to pull the wool over voters’ eyes would have done no less.  Such is the case with Obamacare.

As we go through this transition to a government-run system, watch for the absolutely suffocating fees and taxes (when taken in total) that pretty much will not be evident to the individual American. Instead the cost that Apple must pay for this federal “tax” and other far more onerous such fees will be passed along to consumers in the form of higher priced I-pads, etc.,  lay-offs, or fewer raises for present employees.  Yes indeed, trickle down is a reality.

Obamacare Facts – Resource

I have found over the past year that one of the best sites to learn more about most every aspect of medicine, including the politics of healthcare is Medscape. I receive valuable information on issues ranging from arthritis to ophthalmology, from cancer to nutrition. But more recently, I receive many briefs concerning Obamacare, highlighting many of the issues that directly impact the practicing physician. We will post a summary and a link to those factoids as they come across our desks.

The President’s Run-In With Doctors

“YOU COME IN AND YOU’VE GOT A BAD SORE THROAT, OR YOUR CHILD HAS A BAD SORE THROAT OR HAS REPEATED SORE THROATS.  YOU KNOW WHAT?  I MAKE A LOT MORE MONEY IF I TAKE THE KID’S TONSILS OUT”  Barack Obama, 2009

Political rhetoric can be biting. Sometimes it should be. But this President, on this issue, with these words, went over the line He left no doubt that he believes America’s health care professionals will perform egregious, unnecessary services on patients just to make money.  Never a mention of the hard work, years of education, or that perhaps he was referring to the smallest of minorities when he said that.

Questions, Questions, Questions on Obamacare….

Now that the Supreme Court has spoken and we must now live under the President’s health care law (including its hidden taxes), it’s time to start asking those who support the law to help us understand exactly how it is going to work.  That raises about 2700 pages of questions for me.   Let’s start with a simple one:

Why would a state commit financial suicide by setting up its own exchange?  Seems that if a state chooses not to set up an exchange, the federal government can, and will do so, anyway without a financial strain on the State.  On top of that, apparently, businesses in those states that choose to not to set up exchanges are not subject to a penalty should they fail to provide insurance for their employees.  I am not advocating that businesses simply stop providing health insurance for their employees, merely asking how Obamacare will function and remain within budgetary guidelines if enough states opt out?

GOP HAS HUGE OPENING ON HEALTH CARE……..

With all the angst, anger and post-game complaining, the GOP has been given a huge opening to finally get the upper hand on an issue usually reserved for the Democrats — healthcare.  During every election season, on nearly every issue, a sitting President and his political Party get to play offense because the bully pulpit lies in the Executive branch where sudden changes in policy, surprise announcements and big foreign policy decisions can alter the agenda without notice.  And while it might seem that President Obama has secured a victory on health care, once again giving him an advantage over the GOP, I think all is not as it might seem.

What Did They Expect? SCOTUS and The President’s Health Care Law

When a political Party which sits in a position of ultimate strength (control of the White House, House and a filibuster-proof Senate) finds it necessary to craft legislation behind closed doors, refuses ANY input from the minority Party, passes it through a hyper-partisan Congress with not a single vote from the minority Party and doing so with such arrogance to announce “we have to pass it so we can find out what is it in”, what is one to expect?  Certainly not a result reflective of open, consultative debate.

WHO ARE THE LOSERS IN HEALTH CARE DEBATE – GOP, DEMS? NO, IT’S THE PATIENTS AND THE DOCTORS

Right about  now, as the talking heads and mainstream media finish dissecting the recall in Wisconsin, they will turn their attention to the Supreme Court’s decision on the President’s health care Law.  And rightfully so. They will talk about whether or not President Obama will win if he loses, if the GOP will lose if it is overturned, that the Dems will be gifted a riled up base if it is smacked down.  All sorts of political permutations, winners and losers.

Another Headache for the President on Healthcare

When President Obama and his colleagues in Congress drafted the bills that eventually became his signature achievement – affectionately referred to as Obamacare – they were careful to craft a timeline that would require implementation of the “carrots” immediately, while delaying the appearance of the “sticks” until after the 2012 Election.   Funny thing about that plan — many Americans are finding out too soon that there are a ton of “sticks” about to hit them over the head.

Case in point:  An honest reading of the President’s Health Care Law reveals that the cost of insurance for the younger and healthier in our society will skyrocket beginning in 2014.  Without getting too far into the weeds, let me explain.

History Repeats Itself For The GOP On Health Care?

A popular topic of conversation these days for DC pundits, Sunday talking heads and op/ed writers is:  “Which political Party will be hurt more if the Supreme Court over turns all, or a portion of, the President’s Health Care Law?”  One fairly well known Los Angeles Times writer examined the issue from all angles and concluded that “only time will tell”.   Well, that certainly qualifies him as a man of strong conviction!
