What Difference Does it Make

Former Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton, in her frequently grating manner when being pushed into a corner has now coined five words that will accompany her into any future campaign – “What difference does it make?” To that pronouncement I can only respond with unparalleled incredulity, “WHAT DIFFERENCE DOES IT MAKE?????????”

Does she think we are simpletons who have not single brain cell in our heads to understand that the State Department was wholly unprepared for a 9/11 attack, or rather that we knew something was amiss but failed to come to the rescue of trapped Americans?

The President’s Faux Anger

Early today, the President once again took the stage for yet another one of his “teaching moments”. He obliquely but sternly chided Congress (re: GOP) for always leaving things to the last minute. He actually said, “The notion that our elected leadership cannot come together to solve problems is mind-boggling to me.” Does he not remember that HE is part of that leadership?

EXCUUSE ME….BUSH TAX CUTS HELPED EVERYONE?

While sitting here on vacation trying to get away from the over-hyped “fiscal cliff” news, someone turned on CNN here in the lounge. And despite my intent to actually “vacation”, I could not help but glance at the only English language news station — CNN. I know, watching CNN on my vacation is a bit masochistic but for political junkies like me, I could not resist.

The First Trickle Down Taxes Of Obamacare

It was wise politics for the President to tout all the positive and no-co-pay services brought about by Obamacare BEFORE the Election and unveil all the costs AFTER the Election.  Any politician who wanted to pull the wool over voters’ eyes would have done no less.  Such is the case with Obamacare.

As we go through this transition to a government-run system, watch for the absolutely suffocating fees and taxes (when taken in total) that pretty much will not be evident to the individual American. Instead the cost that Apple must pay for this federal “tax” and other far more onerous such fees will be passed along to consumers in the form of higher priced I-pads, etc.,  lay-offs, or fewer raises for present employees.  Yes indeed, trickle down is a reality.

Obamacare Facts – Resource

I have found over the past year that one of the best sites to learn more about most every aspect of medicine, including the politics of healthcare is Medscape. I receive valuable information on issues ranging from arthritis to ophthalmology, from cancer to nutrition. But more recently, I receive many briefs concerning Obamacare, highlighting many of the issues that directly impact the practicing physician. We will post a summary and a link to those factoids as they come across our desks.

ARGO a Winner…..Benghazi NOT

By all accounts, the recent hit film, Argo, is a big winner.  Argo boasts all the ingredients of a great story – a heroic protagonist who disobeys direct orders from Washington and pulls off the impossible rescue despite bungling and naive planning by higher-ups.  The storyline was made all the better by the fact that it was based on true events and ended with the warmth and happiness of a family reunited.

But Hollywood doesn’t make too many films with tragic endings unless it’s a modern version of a Shakespeare play.  So don’t expect a ton of scripts recounting the unfolding tragic farce of Benghazi.

Osama Bin Laden is Dead and GM is Alive – Part 2

Was GM Ever Going to Die?

Have you flown Delta, American or United Airlines anytime recently? I prefer Virgin or Jet Blue, but when I do fly those airlines, I routinely see planes moving on the runway with Delta, AA and UA logos plastered on the planes. I still see ticket counter workers, flight attendants, pilots and a variety of other workers toiling on behalf of these American companies.

You may wonder what all of that has to do with Mr. Obama’s proclamation that he saved GM. Quite simply, those three major companies all went through bankruptcy proceedings and emerged intact in most ways, jobs saved. They still fill our nation’s skies as they did before their economic woes.
